Open Farms Tour Educates about Sustainability
For one day only, Sunday, Oct. 8, there is an opportunity to explore 10 local farms — all within a few miles of each other. The free Open Farm Tours, in its fourth year, includes farm-hosted special activities. Farmers are on hand to answer visitors’ questions, and the mission is “building community through supporting local family farms and sustainable agriculture,” says founder Penny Ellis. People can learn what is involved in growing food, and how important farms’ sustainable methods are to the health of the Earth and our community.
